Explore This National Treasure

Known as the Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast, Acadia National Park is located on Mount Desert Island. As one of the most visited national parks in the United States, it offers a 35 mile park-loop drive along the rocky coast, 45 miles of carriage roads for bike riding, horseback riding, walking and jogging, and over 150 miles of hiking trails. From the top of Cadillac Mountain you can see the many islands interlaced with the shimmering blue Atlantic Ocean. After breakfast at the Inn, start your exploration at Hulls Cove Visitor Center. You’ll be able to purchase your entrance pass, pick up park maps, talk to a ranger to plan your visit, or find souvenirs at the park store.

Get Out on the Water

Rentals and guided tours are available from several providers, including The Activity Shop and Castine Kayaks. Advance reservations are suggested since the companies are small, often limited to one tour at a time, and have just a few rental kayaks on hand. Rental kayaks can be delivered to your put-in place of choice, including the boat landing just two blocks from the inn. The pristine waters of the area are great for kayaking with access in Blue Hill, Naskeag Point, Castine, and Deer Isle. Blue Hill’s reversing falls are perfect for the kayaker wanting to experience “white water” at a controlled pace.

Fishing

Reel One In

One of the reasons that the fishing is so plentiful here is because the rich vegetation on the seafloor provides shelter and nutrition to an abundance of baitfish and crustaceans, which in turn supports a healthy population of game fish! Whether you’re looking for something fun to do with your family or want a weekend getaway with your friends, a Blue Hill fishing trip on your own or with a professional charter or fishing guide, such as Maine Bass Fishing, will provide you with fantastic memories that will last a lifetime

A Year Round Pastime

The many nature preserves in the surrounding area, including our own Blue Hill Mountain, offer excellent birding year round. There are several birding festivals in the surrounding area throughout the spring. There are plenty of secluded spots for viewing our native species all year round!

Courses & Courts

For golf enthusiasts, we have area public courses in Deer Isle and Castine. Those up for tennis can play on the public courts right across the street, and we have racquets and balls available at the Inn for our guests to use. The local Blue Hill YMCA offers day passes for guests who would like to make use of their indoor walking track, swimming pool, exercise room and basketball/pickleball courts.
