The perfect romantic winter getaway to Blue Hill, ME, is waiting for you! The fast pace that tends to creep in during the holidays can be put aside for a few days when you visit. Maine is peaceful and brilliant this time of year, so we put together a few indoor and outdoor activities that encourage slowing down and enjoying some serene hours for just the two of you.
Brisk Hikes
The area of Blue Hill is just bursting with trails and adventures. Layer on some woolens, and head into the great outdoors. Maybe a mountain hike? Blue Hill Mountain is ready for exploration! Or a walk along the beach hand in hand to clear your head and put a spring back in your step. The Blue Hill Bay coastline can fill your lungs with sharp, clean air.
Other trails that are fun to explore are the Furth Wildlife Sanctuary and Ferry Landing areas—acres and acres of crisp, natural beauty. See our other blog post about the top winter trails near Blue Hill for even more areas to go hiking.
We can’t leave off a discussion of outdoor activities without mentioning fishing, snowshoeing, and skating. Ice fishing is permitted beginning January 1—just remember to stick to the lakes and ponds, for running waters are still not in season. Snowshoeing is one of the best ways to get in some excellent cardio! For the thrill of an ice-skating experience, head on over to Peninsula Skating Rink for some outdoor (!) fun. Their facebook page gives a bit more information—especially open skate times.
Cozy Fireside
Whew! All that talk of outdoor activity has made us start to think about warming up (thawing out!) by the fire. Head indoors for a seat by the crackling fireplace we have prepared in the living room. Hot cocoa will ward off the chill, and your eyes may close for a few moments of fireside rest. Take some time to relax your muscles and recount the stories from the adventures of the day. Post your favorite photos and share your experience on our Facebook page.
Local Food and Drink
Some good eats are waiting for you nearby. Dinner and conversation with no interruptions give you and your love time to connect on a deeper level. A couple of our favorite restaurants situated close to the inn are the Humblebee Cafe for lunch and Arborvine for a gourmet dinner.
At Humblebee, try the lobster roll. Their warm date cake is a must for dessert. The food at Arborvine is exquisite, especially their seafood dishes and the crispy duck. Be sure to save room to try one of their many homemade desserts.
Wrap up the evening with a bottle of wine, craft cocktail or local brew here in our living room for the perfect end to your day.
Maker Galleries
While you’re here, be sure to visit some of our local creators. The Blue Hill Bay Gallery (open on weekends) is located in an 1820 brick house on Main. The permanent collection is from the 19th and 20th centuries. Handworks Gallery has all sorts of art created using different mediums. Wandering through these two galleries provides some interesting conversation and gift options. You never know, a piece or two might just be packaged up as a special gift commemorating this trip.
The perfect romantic winter getaway to Blue Hill, ME, is just waiting for you to check in! We have lovely rooms and lazy-day breakfasts waiting for you.
